Overview of the treatment
Herbal medicine is the use of plant remedies in the treatment of disease.
Originally plants were found by trial but nowadays this wealth of knowledge
is enhanced by scientific verification of a plant's chemical constituents, enabling
practitioners to mix and prescribe plants with a high degree of accuracy and understanding.
Over 80% of the world population rely on herbs for health and as such it is still the most widely
used form of medicine in the world even though we think of it as an alternative therapy.
Ailments which can be treated by this therapy
Herbal medicine can treat almost any condition that patients might take to their doctor.
Common complaints seen by herbalists include skin problems such as psoriasis, acne and eczema,
digestive disorders such as peptic ulcers, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and indigestion.
Problems involving the heart and circulation like angina, high blood pressure, varicose veins,
varicose ulcers etc. can also be treated successfully as can gynaecological disorders like
premenstrual syndrome and menopausal problems: also conditions such as arthritis, insomnia,
stress, migraine and headaches, tonsillitis, influenza and allergic responses like hay fever and asthma.
How is the treatment done
Herbal medicines are extracts from whole parts of a plant (e.g. berries, leaves, roots etc.),
they contain hundreds, sometimes thousands of plant constituents.
Herbs can treat both the root cause of the problem and the person as a whole.
Treatments are tailored according to patients needs. Practitioner will take any previous
or current illness or medication into account before providing treatment.
